The Zippo BLU® lighter is the recipient of the Philip Morris USA "Success
Through Synergy" award.
Company Awarded for Innovative New Product and Commitment to Quality
Bradford, Pa. – July 24, 2008 – Zippo Manufacturing Company was
recently presented with the Philip Morris USA “Success through Synergy” supplier
achievement award for its newest product, the Zippo BLU butane lighter.
The Zippo BLU lighter uses a patented two-stage burner technology that creates
the blue flame—making it more technologically advanced than any other lighter.
It delivers a hot, consistent, clean-burning butane flame, unlike the
traditional windproof lighter which sports a yellow flame fueled by liquid
lighter fluid.
“On behalf of Philip Morris USA, I would like to thank the employees at Zippo
for their outstanding commitment to developing this phenomenal product – from
building a new manufacturing facility to perfecting every detail,” says Bill
Odom, director, HQ purchasing, Philip Morris USA. “By integrating new butane
technology with the hallmark flint-wheel ignition, Zippo created a brand new
lighter, unique in the marketplace. We know we can count on them for innovative,
high-quality products time and time again.”
Many of the iconic, timeless characteristics of the company’s signature
windproof lighters are also brought forth in the Zippo BLU lighter including the
distinctive ‘click’ that has made the Zippo lighter legendary since 1932.
Zippo is among the 4,000 suppliers of Philip Morris USA and was one of only 12
to receive an award at the Supplier Recognition and Engagement Event held in
April. Both technical and quality aspects resulted in the consideration of Zippo
for this supplier achievement award.
“We feel honored to have received this award from Philip Morris USA and we
intend to continue manufacturing products that break the mold in quality and
creativity,” says Greg Booth, Zippo president and CEO.
The Zippo BLU lighter is made entirely in the United States and is backed by the
company’s world-famous lifetime guarantee, “It works, or we fix it free.”
